I need this for my office.
I am participating in the Lime Seeds’ Summer 2012 Reading Challenge- I’ll be reading 10 books between today and Labor Day. First off will be a re-read of The Great Gatsby. I half-assed it junior year of high school and really need to read it again. I’ll also be keeping track of my challenge in Good Reads.
My BFF Ashley is also joining me- she’s like a librarian on speed and had already read like a hundred books this year. Ashley, your challenge is fifty.
Go.
Summer To-Do List

This summer I will:
- Read 10 books between now and Labor Day (stay tuned)
- Go to the beach as often as I can (I do live in the Ocean State)
- Explore RI towns outside of Providence
- Never turn down an invite to a BBQ
- Wear mostly skirts and dresses
- Go to a fair
- Watch the fireworks
- Drink as much summer shandy as possible (within reason- I’m responsible, guys!)
- Take my dogs to the beach (they were so happy yesterday, it melted my heart) a few more times
- Make an American Flag Cake (nothing says childhood like a flag cake) oh, and make taco dip!
- Go to a Red Sox, Pawsox and Brewer’s game
- Go to the Tower when I’m home
- Head to Block Island for my birthday (get ready, guys!)
I feel like this is my first “real” Rhode Island summer, and I really want to make the most of it. When I was working at WaterFire, it always seemed like everything happened on fire weekends. This summer is going to rule.
silver lining
This weekend was pretty fantastic.
Friday started off with our first Summer Friday at JWU followed by drinks with co-workers at Murphy’s and a long nap afterwards. I was then able to catch up on chores, emails and trip to Trader Joe’s and TJ Maxx to pick up goodies for the long weekend.
Saturday, my friend Julie was in town from NYC for Brown Alumni weekend (we met as interns at WaterFire together) and we met up at the Lippitt Park Farmer’s Market. We grabbed lunch at Garden Grille and had ice cream at Three Sisters (which I have never been to, but will totally go back, the green tea ice cream was awesome). We then headed down to Thayer for some shopping and came back to our house to catch up. Julie is one of those friends were we can go months without talking, and when we hang out, we can just pick right back up. It was SO good to see her.
Sunday, S and I took Lucky and Lucy to the dog beach in Barrington. Lucky and Lucy seemed so happy and even wandered off-leash. The weather was great, and I forget how close we are to the beach. Then, Lucy chased a bird off into the grass and wound up stuck in 3 feet of muddy swamp water. S had to grab her out and we were left with a smelly, muddy hound that reaked of low tide.
Today, I went down to East Matunuck Beach with a few ladies and it was a blast- the perfect day and best way to kick off the summer. We shopped at The Umbrella Factory for fun jewelry and hung out some emus and goats. Then, we laid on the beach for hours and had Dels (with a little somethin’). The perfect day was topped off by chowder and clam cakes. God, I love Rhode Island.
